Akrathos was born in 2007 with a dream by Babis Bekris to make wine in Halkidiki, with native Greek grapes.

The ideal site was discovered in Northern Greece's Chalkidiki, in the municipality of Aristotle. Constructing a winery so close to the birthplace of Artistotle's historic 'Akanthos' wine felt fortuitous; thus the name Akrathos was chosen. 100% Assyrtiko, which is originally from the Island of Santorini. The grape is said to make mineral driven wines similar to a Chabliis. Maturation in stainless steel retained the freshness of this Assyrtiko but it also spends two to four weeks on its lees for added complexity.
